Kishuthara- a facade
The outer appearance are deceptive and never to be trusted. The cynical world has created more skeptics. We often land up judging people by their looks, dresses, characteristics or the overall physical appearance.
If a person wears a smile we judge him/her as a happy and peaceful person. Likewise if a person is silent and secluded, the person is moody and anti-social.
If a girl wears a makeup and hangs out with a "BOY" friends, she is labelled as whore.
If a boy has a small and dizzy eye, he is into drugs.
If a woman wears flamboyant Kiras and dresses, she is showing off.
If a man plays archery, he is not a family man.
In an organisation if a sweeper or any subordinates wears exquisite dresses, they are scrutinized and are judged as a people with no working interest. ( In our society sweepers and gardeners are meant for ragged clothes.) . The class division has long faded away but human mind is still divided.
The aristocratic still thinks that they are the superior and that the middle and working class are the subject of subjugation. Similarly, the middle class accept everything imposed on them by upper class and scared of tarnishing their relationship with the bigger ones end up exploiting the poor.
The destitute, the poor working class is the victim of decisions made by someone else in the smoky room.
The public facade of harmonious relationship is reel not real.
"The class division has long faded away but human mind is still divided."The thought of writing this article on prejudices and deception was provoke by one of my normal conversation with one of the colleague. We were discussing about how the systems work in our organisation and how each and every employees work hard. Needless to say it was kind of talking about someone behind them. We were discussing about our colleagues who are dedicated and their first impression to our perspective. The conversation was not futile like every gossips are thought of being. We were discussing but of all the things one statement stuck me.
He said " at first our gardeners and sweeper who are all women set a bad impression on me. I have always seen them walking here and there with ravishing makeup and dresses which were meant for some occasions or for a person who works from desk. I even concluded that the ladies are not here to work but then to stage a fashion show. However, my perception about them changed since the college inauguration. The women were looking gorgeous with all the makeups and KISHUTHARA for the big day. In the midst of this excitement I was astonished to see their willingness to work even wearing the most expensive dress which can be afforded by few affluent. The women were not hesitant to lift big tables which is always thought to be masculine task. They didn't care about the eyes cast on them but fulfilled their responsibility. They were the real hero " A woman with strength ". They were working but my unnecessary attention to their appearance blindfolded me with wrong judgement. They are enthusiastic to work even wearing Kisuthara. I was prejudice and was deceived by the outer appearance."
From this conversation my take away was that being judgmental is not wise but bias.
