"Blogging- Expression of self"

Blogging is a global phenomenon. Initially, people started blogging for fun, becoming a professional blogger and making money online wasn’t the aim. However, the technocratic world has evolved the whole concept of blogging, and now people blog for many different reasons. There are even distinctions among types of blogs – sports, business, lifestyle, fashion, food, and entertainment blogs, among others. The blogging has developed over the last decade, the benefits of blogging are myriad. Blogging can benefit an individual’s personal and professional life.

“Instead of being a passive consumer, we can become an active blogger.

Blogging gives us the platform to express ourselves and share our passions. We can voice our ideas, thoughts, and feelings. The field of interest differs from one individual to another. Whether our passion is creativity, sports, business, cooking, politics, or photography, blogging gives us the opportunity to connect and network with compatible individuals who share the same passions. Blogging is a global conversation, people across the world can share, comment and communicate through their post. Furthermore, blogging can also help us contribute to the betterment of any cause. Through writing, we can make our voice heard, and make a difference in a small way. Some people blog supporting a cause. For instance, Chaplop Passang Tshering advocated the concept of “Bhutan Toilet” through his blog. The blog was received by the reader positively and it turned out to be a huge success. Thus, whether it’s a political, environmental or social cause, a blog is a great way to build awareness and reap support.

Blogging also stimulates us intellectually. As we enter the workforce, our brain starts becoming obsolete. We don’t have any academic stimulation as we delve into the daily mundane office works. However, I believe that having a blog will at least give us the drive to reflect and write. Instead of being a passive consumer of ideas, posts, articles, and essays, we can become an active blogger. Since whatever we post, it will be read and judge by different readers, we will be conscious of what we are writing and profusely work towards developing structured and logical ideas and opinion. Thus, blogging keep us active and it also improves our writing skills. For example, as an educator blogging helps me to evaluate the student’s portfolio online, thereby avoiding the arduous task of correcting notebooks.

Now blogging is not just a passion but a profession. People earn by blogging. Most of the people start as an amateur blogger and later turn into professionals. Thus, I believe that it was apt to familiarise us with the creation, usage, and benefits of blogging. As an educator, we have a humongous platform and opportunity to collaborate and integrate blogging skills in our teaching-learning process.
