“A Teacher from Heart, My savior”

Teachers play a vital role in the lives of the students. Teachers are best known for the role of educating the students that are placed in their care. Of many attributes of being a teacher, I believe that a teacher should be passionate, empathetic and committed to arousing the determination and aspiration of students. Passionate teachers are distinguished by their commitment to achievement of their students. A committed teacher is concerned with the development of their students and they profoundly struggle in sustaining the students’ learning. They cultivate students’ curiosity and interest in learning. And I am fortunate to have come across such a teacher, who engaged not only in her profession but was committed to students’ development and their learning during my secondary school.
From kindergarten until we graduate, we come across myriad teachers who in some way or another shape us into better human beings and mold us to become a competent individual. However, I am certain that every individual has that one ‘Great Teacher’ whom we idealize and draw inspiration from. I must confess that I was bestowed with one such teacher who changed my perception of studying and inculcated a renewed aim in life when I was in class XII, a turning point of my whole educational journey. To this day, I acknowledge my class teacher of XII Arts for noticing my potential and igniting my enthusiasm for learning new things.

The unconditional effort and strenuous dedication my class teacher bequeathed on me were unprecedented. She made me realize my dream and aspiration. She believed in my potential when everyone shunned and were skeptic. It was an epiphany, an eye-opener when my teacher said that I have the ability to outshine to reach the pinnacles. She genuinely believed that I have got what it takes. I still remember my class XII practical assessment, when the teacher applauded and appreciated my work. It was my first time that a teacher sincerely appreciated and praised the work I had completed. It was a breakthrough, my motivation was boosted further and I started working hard from that day. And, I vividly remember my class 12 mid-term results. I stood first surprising everyone as I was never good in studies. That was the first time I ever received accolades for academic achievements, although I always dreamt of being at the forefront, receiving the certificates instead of standing in the audience clapping and imagining the aura of being a topper.

"A teacher, who engaged not only in her profession but was committed to students’ development and their learning ".

I still, remember what my teacher said to me while giving my result-"You have the capability. You will qualify to Sherubtse College if you study with the same perseverance". This statement motivated and ignited my restless adrenaline. I strived to do well and aimed to make spoken statement a reality. My family and friends teased me when I admitted about my plan of going to  Sherubtse College, their indifferences never affected me as my teacher's words resonated strongly and were etched in my heart and mind. I profusely worked hard. Fortunately, with that motivation from my teacher, I not only got into Sherubtse College but kept on excelling. I never looked back but believed in myself. These trust and faith were instilled by my teacher for which I am eternally thankful.

Now, I am a teacher and I always share this story of a teacher I encountered- Madam Rinzin Wangmo (Class teacher of 12 Arts) who influenced and directed my life on the right path. I try to follow her path and always aim to inspire and motivate my students. I stay true to myself and never hesitate to share my personal experience rather than just teaching or preaching. Being passionate about what you do is what makes you happy, and I have always strived to be committed and passionate about my profession and to students.
