"A Bestfriend, a true friend"

As a fresh gust of wind swept past me, I felt the strange warmth of the sun in Kanglung. My heart fluttered with each step as I approached the college gate.

‘How will be my first day at the college? What if I don’t get good friends? Will I be able to adapt to the hostel life?’ series of questions tormented my mind, making me nervous.

I entered the college gate. Seniors directed me to the MPH hostel as my room was allocated there. My room was on the second floor. I was the first person in the room as I reported a day earlier. It had a brown door with large window panes, behind them hung white laced curtains.

The cold breeze brushed my hair and cheeks. I felt like an empty, dried up well as I was alone in the room. Memories came crowding from unknown vaults of mind that eyes creased looking at the family photo. Few teardrops trickled and dropped on the photograph. The whole night was miserable as I missed my family a lot.

The sun pierced through the lanced curtain and with each ray a new hope developed. I prayed for a good roommate with closed eyes. At the back of my mind, I heard the tok…tok…sound of the heel. It stopped abruptly for a voice.

‘Is this room no.15’, a girl asked.

A sprightly girl stood by the doorway in her collared deep pink coat and high heeled black shoes, with a Black Handbag dangling from her left shoulder and a white silk scarf around her head.
‘Yes, it is’, I replied.
Amm…I guessed it right? She muttered.

The fold below the corner of her eyes, which were round, bluish and sparkling with a peculiar light in them, made her look agile. White skin, slim arms, and the shining red hair fell about her, rippling and shining like a cascade of brown water.
‘Hi… I’m your roommate’, I muttered.
‘Cool…I’m Wangmo, your new friend’, she claimed with enthusiasm.
‘Chimi here’, I said.

She was very talkative. She talked about herself the whole day and to my surprise, we became good friends. I loved chatting with her though it was meaningless at times. Our character; two poles. She was friendly and sociable but I was timid and reserved.

"Our character; two poles. She was friendly and sociable but I was timid and reserved."

With all these differences we became best friends that we couldn't be parted from each other's company. She was a part of my family and the most admirable quality about her is that she never gets angry at anything. She is always happy with whatever comes on her way and takes everything in an optimistic way.

The bond we share is very unique and I thank her for the continuous love and care. I remember the ache and fear of loneliness I had at the beginning of college life. Her arrival was like a soothing light in the dark night that made me smile.
She is not just a friend, best friend forever.
